What: The Sierra Club Marin Group will present a comprehensive Candidate Training Workshop for anyone considering a run for one of 100's of seats up for election throughout the Bay Area this fall. From City Councils to School Boards to Parks and Water Districts, there are plenty of opportunities to try your chances at elected office this year. If you've ever considered a run or just want to know more about helping your favorite candidate, this is the place to start.
Who: Seasoned Sierra Club campaigners, candidates and office holders: Dotty LeMieux and Larry Fahn (Green Dog campaign Strategies Group), Ann Thomas (veteran of dozens of campaigns), and Alex Forman (recently elected to the Marin Municipal Water District). Alex will talk about what it means to be a first time environmental candidate for a high profile office. Topics: The seminar will cover issues such as: What it means to be an "environmental" candidate. How to make the decision to run without ruining your marriage; How to convince volunteers you they WANT to give up their social life for two months to help you; When to bite the bullet and hire a professional. Yes, you CAN pick up the telephone and ask for money! Getting your message out to the voters while still keeping your integrity and other secrets of successful office holders.
