Welcome to the Sierra Club Car Camping Website and Another Great Year for Camping!

General Information: Please read this information if you are planning to attend one of our trips. Participants will be responsible for their own camping and hiking equipment as well as their personal belongings. There will be hiking opportunities planned for each trip.

All trips will have a food coordinator who will assign participants to teams of 2 or 3 people who will buy, prepare, and serve either a breakfast or dinner for the group. If there are enough participants,appetizers and desserts will also be assigned. Food costs average about $30 per person.

Coffee will be provided. Participants bring their own lunch and other beverages. Everyone helps in the meal clean-up and other campground housekeeping chores.

Cut off time for reservations will be one week before the beginning of the trip.

Send your reservation fee - payable to Sierra Club Car Camping - to the trip leader. Be sure to include your address, phone number and email address. A two week cancellation notice is required for full refund.

The food coordinator will call you to discuss food assignments about one week before the trip. The trip leader will email you names of all participants and the driving directions.

Participants must provide their own transportation to and from the park. Carpooling is encouraged. No dogs or children under 21 are allowed.

Lakes Basin camping, near Graeagle, June 18 – 21, 4 days, 3 nights

The camping site has flush toilets and showers and water.

There is some beautiful hiking between lakes and streams.

This will be a shared commissary trip with participants buying, preparing and serving one meal for the group. Food should not cost more than an additional $25 per person. The cost of the trip is $35 per person.

Lassen Volcanic National Park July 12 – 16, 5 days, 4 nights

At Lassen National Park we will stay at Juniper Lake, a spectacular lakeside campground at 6,700 feet, in the southeast corner of the park. There is magnificent hiking in all directions including peak bagging and relatively level lakeside trails. Only non-motorized boats are allowed on the lake so canoes and inflatibles are welcome. The campground is primitive, pit toilets and no drinking water so you will need to provide your own personal drinking water. The leader will provide communal water needs.

This will be a shared commissary trip with participants buying, preparing and serving one meal for the group. Food should not cost more than an additional $25 per person.

Samuel P Taylor, August 12 - 14

Samuel P. Taylor State Park is located north of San Francisco in the rolling hills of Marin County. It is just seven miles east of the spectacular Point Reyes National Seashore. The park offers cool, shaded fern-filled groves of coast redwoods, a variety of flowers, and open grassland. Blacktailed deer, grey foxes, and other critters reside in the park. Silver salmon and steelhead trout migrate up Papermill Creek to spawn.

Breakfast and dinner are community style - cookware and stoves are provided. Meal cleanup duties are shared. The campgrounds include tables, stoves, food lockers, piped drinking water and restrooms with hot showers.

There are a number of hiking trails and fire roads such as to the top of Mt. Barnabe, or to Devil's Gulch.

Rain may shorten or alter, but the trip will take place rain or shine.

To register, send a check for $35.00 made out to Sierra Club Car Camping to the trip leader.

You and one other car camper will be responsible for planning, purchasing the food and preparing one shared meal for all the participants (your cost about $25 - $30) - details and meal recommendations are provided prior to the trip. Bring your tent and sleeping bag, hiking shoes and equipment, flashlight, food and water for lunches, etc. A list of recommended things to bring is provided once you have registered for this trip.

Carpooling is encouraged since there is limited parking at the campground. A list of participants will be distributed prior to the trip, to facilitate carpooling.

Mt. Tam State Park, Sept 13 - 16

We will be stayng at Alice Eastwood Group Site B, recently renovated with flush toilets and showers. One can do it all from Mt. Tam - spectacular hikes, beaches, Muir Woods, incredible views, and it's right in our backyard!!. The weather should be perfect in September.

As with all Car Camping trips, this is a shared commisary with teamed participates preparing and serving one meal. Costs should be about $25/person. It is impertative that you read all the general info provided on this website.

There will be mandatory carpooling as there are only limited parking spaces. Leader can help once participants have signed up.
