San Francisco Dinner
"Pakistan: Trekking along the Wakhan Corridor"
Thursday, January 19, social hour 6 pm, dinner 7, show 8 - City Forest Lodge, 254 Laguna Honda Boulevard, San Francisco
(across from Laguna Honda Hospital and downhill from Forest Hill Station; take Muni's K, L, M, or 43). Come early for street parking (no
sidewalk parking please).
Three weeks before October's devastating earthquake, Sigrid Selle returned from a six-week trek in Northern Pakistan.
She and her companion enjoyed the beautiful mountain scenery along the Wakhan Corridor, crossing many high passes and meeting
hospitable shepherds in isolated summer pastures. An unforeseen snowstorm foiled their plan to cross the Qalander Uween Pass. They
exited instead through the Ishkoman Gorge and continued to the fabulous Hunza Valley. Another short trek in the extreme northern corner
of Pakistan led from the village of Misgar to the Pamir Mountains. Last but not least they visited the ancient town of Uch Sharif (south
of Multan), known for its Sufi shrines. Close by was Derawar Fort, at the edge of the Thar Desert.
We are happy to have Sigrid Selle, the intrepid mountain climber and magnificent photographer of exotic places, with us for another
great show.
