San Francisco Dinner: "Wildflower Walks on the Sonoma Coast"
Thursday, February 16, social hour 6 pm, dinner 7, show 8 - City Forest Lodge, 254 Laguna Honda Boulevard, San Francisco (across from Laguna Honda
Hospital and downhill from Forest Hill Station; take Muni's K, L, M, or 43). Come early for street parking (no sidewalk parking please).
Walter Earle and Margaret Graham are the founders of Mostly Natives Nursery in Tomales. For many years Walter has observed, photographed,
propagated, and promoted native plants, in particular those that grow along the coast. He is also a past president of the Milo Baker Chapter (Sonoma County) of the
California Native Plant Society.
Walter's presentation will focus on the most interesting places to walk and observe our bounty of flowering plants along the Sonoma County coast. While the
beaches of the area are among the most heavily used in the state, people are missing fine walks along and near the coast, where surprises are many and crowds are sparse.
The Kortum Trail and the Pomo Trail are two such walks. Walter will take us there and also to Salt Point State Park, which has a wide variety of habitats to explore. The
North Trail Pygmy Forest hike takes one through several different forest types. Unusual plants such as the camas
(Camissia quamash) and coast lily (Lilium
maritimum) may be seen on this hike.
Reservations are required (no attendance for program only). Mail check for $13.50 made out to "Sierra Club, S.F. Bay Chapter" to Barb Bourns at:
