East Bay Dinner: "Spring at Joshua Tree National Park"

Thursday, February 23, no-host cocktails/social hour - 6 pm, dinner - 7:00, program - 8:00, Berkeley Yacht Club on the Berkeley Marina, one block north of the west end of University Avenue (ample free parking is available in the Marina parking lots).

Join Larry Abers to share the beauty of Joshua Tree National Park, its landscapes, geology, flora, and fauna. The park is a dynamic preserve of the high-desert ecological community that is unique, intriguing, and fragile. Joshua Tree National Park was set aside for its large stands of its namesake - the Joshua tree - its potentially lavish wildflower displays, and extensive reptile species. Some reclusive faunal species include desert bighorn sheep, desert tortoise, and desert kit fox.

Larry is an active member of the California Native Plant Society and an avid and dedicated amateur naturalist. He has been hiking, backpacking, and rafting his way through the western U.S. for over a quarter century. His love is the deserts of the Southwest, which he has visited every spring for over 30 years - always with camera in hand. Last year he began international travel with a month-long sojourn in South Africa.

Dinner is $22, which includes tax and tip. To make a reservation, send your check payable to "Sierra Club", including your name and phone number, to:
